Pelion Culture is owned and operated by Yota Pantou, a native of Volos, Greece. After receiving her BA in Archaeology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Yota worked professionally for seven years as a staff member of the Greek Archaeological Service. Her passion for conducting research eventually led her to pursue graduate work at the State University of New York at Buffalo where she received an MA and Ph.D. in Mediterranean Archaeology. From 2007-2009 she was a fellow at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, where she attended the school’s intensive travel program visiting archaeological and cultural sites throughout Greece. Yota has excavated at numerous sites on the Greek mainland as well as Crete and her research has been published in the American Journal of Archaeology.
In 2015, after 12 years abroad, Yota returned to Volos and created Pelion Culture, a boutique tour guide business focused on personally curated thematic and cultural tours in the city of Volos and the Pelion region (license ID No 33TA02321E1). For Yota, Pelion Culture is a professional dream come true offering her the opportunity to share with others her passion for the unique culture and history of Volos (home of Jason and the Argonauts) and the surrounding Pelion peninsula (the land of the Centaurs).
Pelion Culture guests are afforded an array of intimate, casual or educational, enjoyable and safe tours provided by the owner, Yota Pantou, and her husband Ben Costello, Ph.D. archaeologist and American citizen.
