Discover gods, heroes, and less-visited villages during our Pelion tours. Find peace in a cup of mountain tea at Agios Lavrentios; see what lured Hollywood cinematographers to Damouchari; feel the spirituality at the Nunnery of the Archangels.
Below is a list of our Spring 2020 Pelion Villages Tours starting with the shortest, easiest, and least inexpensive tour and moving to longer or full day trips. All tours start and end at the port of Volos. For our transportation, we collaborate with the best professional drivers in the area and have access to a variety of vehicles (taxi, mini-van, mini bus, bus).
1. “Pelion Above Volos”
A tour of Portaria and Makrinitsa, the two most visited Pelion villages overlooking the bay of Volos. A laid-back tour for those who love magnificent vistas. Feeling adventurous? Add a 30-minute moderate hike at Portaria (The Trail of the Centaurs). Duration: approximately 3 hours
2. “Pelion Off The Beaten Path”
Avoid the tourists and enjoy the lush beauty and the soothing sounds of nature. An ideal tour for those who seek an authentic experience of a mountain village. We will visit Agios Lavrentios, the Pelion village par excellence. A cup of mountain tea in the plateia is on us! Duration: approximately 3 hours
3. “Pelion Small Tour”
Discover the most beautiful villages of Pelion during this half-day tour. Explore the centuries-old mansions of Ano Lechonia. Enjoy the scenic drive to Milies where you meet the legend of the Little Train of Pelion. Immerse in the harmonious coexistence of secular and religious life in Vizitsa. Visit the unspoiled village of Pinakates where electricity arrived in the mid-70’s. Enjoy the unique view of the bay at Agios Georgios. An ideal tour for those who love nature as much as history and architecture. Duration: approximately 4 hours
4. “Pelion Grand Tour”
This is a highly customized and fully narrated tour that introduces you to the grandiosity of Mount Pelion. Entering the mountain from the east through the village of Milies, we continue to central and eastern Pelion to explore Tsagkarada, Kissos, and Zagora. At the top of the mountain we enjoy a cup of mountain tea before we start our descent to Portaria on the west side of the mountain. At the end of the day, you will be back in Volos with a brain full of new facts about Pelion and a bit of energy left from not having to navigate the Pelion roads yourself! The tour is packed with amazing lookouts, picturesque villages, and nature at its best. Duration: approximately 8-9 hours depending on stops for coffee, rest, lunch, swim, etc.
NOTE: Being a small city, Volos’ tourism unlike Athens, cannot sustain daily large group tours for all the destinations that are available in the region. As a result, our tours are private and can be fully customized. We try to keep the cost of your private tour as low as possible while providing you with the best travel experience possible. We can work together to design the tour that best fits your interests, your budget and your time schedule.
